AAD Service Cycle
What are the requirements for servicing your AAD? Each AAD has it's own specific instructions -- but adhering to those instructions is the responsibility of the skydiver.
AAD Service Cycle
Your AAD has manufacturer’s specifications for how long it can be used and the schedule for battery replacement and servicing. Each AAD is different, but according to FAR 105.43 and 105.45 – once an AAD has been installed in your rig, you are responsible for ensuring it has been “maintained in accordance with manufacturer instructions.” This means you must be aware of your equipment’s life-cycle and make sure: 1.) it’s battery is replaced at the proper time; 2.) you’ve met all service requirements for the AAD; and 3.) you retire the AAD when/ if its service life ends. In reality – your rigger will likely inform you of your AAD servicing requirements as they come up – but ultimately it is your responsibility to make sure your AAD has been properly serviced.
Again, each type of AAD has a different service and life cycle – some require more service and battery replacement than others. This may be something you keep in mind when deciding upon on AAD for your rig.
