Â
Choose a Rigger Based on Recommendations of Other Jumpers you Trust
Whether you are a new jumper or simply new to a region â choosing a rigger is an important choice. While the qualifications necessary to become a rigger ensure that everyone that attains this rating is skilled and qualified to do the job â there are still things to consider when choosing a rigger. The first step may be to ask around your dropzone and inquire whom other jumpers entrust their rig to. Once you have a few names, there are a few additional things to consider (in no particular order):
Â
Distance from your home/ the dropzone.
Your rigger will more than likely be rigging from their home â determine how close that location is from either your own home or the dropzone (or both.) The easier it is for you to drop-off and pick-up your rig the better.
Â
Typical time it takes for the rigger to repack
While the time it takes a rigger to do the job certainly has no bearing on their skill level â you may find it aggravating to drop off your rig and then find out a week or two later the individual in question has not begun the repack yet. Each rigger likely has a fairly typical turnover time. Ask both the rigger as well as some of his/her customers to determine if you feel comfortable with their turnover time.
Â
Familiarity with the container
Once again, all riggers are well-qualified. However, some riggers have more experience packing certain types of rigs. Considering that each container manufacturer does things a little differently â you may want to ask if the individual is used to packing your type of rig.
